Subject: RE: Permathread of Memorable Passing/Postings?
Somebody suggested that I should change the name of Mudcatters who have died, adding RIP and the date of death. That way, we'd have a memorial every time we came across the person's name.
What think ye?

Do you mean, change it so all their old posts give that RIP'd membername? It feels off to me. I'm thinking of Giac, for instance. She was a good friend and I do not like to speak for her, but she s nt here to speak for herself so I will offer what I think she would say. I think she would say she preferred to be remembered just as Giac. What maybe could change, tho, if it can be done, is instead of "PM" as a link next to the poster's name, "RIP" as a link to a page explaining that it indicates a Catter who has passed.

And then someone is gonna be offended that their best, departed friend's death is not noticed that way, or offended if it is. So I think it's a can of worms, actually. If it's done retroactively to or for or about people not able to say what they would prefer.

If you do it as a from-now-on thing to apply to people here now, as they pass, that's different, but to apply it backwards seems off, pastorally thinking.
