This was my father's favorite and was sung at his funeral in 1979. He was born in Dent County Missouri in 1914 from Scot-Irish ancestry. I have not seen this in print since his death. The version he had was in a very old hymnal in shape note which both my parents could sing.
I believe the song was of Scottish origin and had been revised when published in the US.
