Cats, I don't know you and am reading between the lines, so please forgive me if I've got this wrong.

Folk music was fundamental to my personal and social life for many years. When my marriage broke up, all music became unbearable and I completely cut myself off from the folk scene. My partner was well known and I kind of handed over 'custody' of our music and our music friends.

This may not be your own situation but there may be echoes in what you're experiencing. Some years down the line, I still find beautiful music difficult and I still avoid certain people and places. But I don't regret what folk music once gave me and I hope you too find comfort again before too long.
