Thread Name: ANC Song - Azekatarle/Asikatali/Azicatal
Subject: RE: ANC Song
This one was sung after Sharpsville (1958)- post above by Reinhard.
Songs went in and out of favor.
A recent article in iol.co.za says former ANC chairperson Lekota spoke out about ANC songs ...when he questioned the relevance of certain liberation songs to current challenges and he condemned the singing of "songs whose message is to demand machine guns."
Gone are the days of Siyay' ePitoli (We are marching to Pretoria*, to take the seat of government), Ngomhia sibuyayo kothula kuthi tu; kokhal' imbayimbayi (On our return, it will all go quiet but the machine gun).
They've been replaced by: Xa siye kelela uZuma, sophalala ngumbutho... etc.

Unless one knows the meaning of a song, and what group favors it or what group condemns it, it seems that one could easily offend an audience or segments of it.
