From the Herefordshire archive of the Ledbury Reporter (2006):

Concert to mark his life
From the archive, first published Monday 3rd Apr 2006.

A CONCERT will celebrate the life of a fund-raising Herefordshire folk fan.

John Noden will be remembered at Putley Village Hall from 3pm on Saturday, April 8.

Mr Noden had returned to England last year from St Helena for medical tests then, despite severe discomfort, braved the three-week journey by boat back to St Helena with his wife Maglan - Princess Dinizulu.

Ten days later he passed away peacefully at their home on the island, which he had grown to love in his retirement.

John lived and worked for many years in Hereford and made many friends in hospital radio and the Hereford Big Band, among others.

`Prof John', as he was known in folk music circles, and Maglan performed as the duo Saints and Sinners and played at many folk festivals throughout the UK.

They both gave considerable time and effort to help local charity events with their fine performances.

The funeral was held on St Helena and the islanders, known as Saints, turned out in force as he had become a well-respected figure with his own show on the local radio station.

With Maglan's blessing, old friends and family members will meet for an afternoon and evening of music and variety finishing with a ceilidh in Putley.

No formal programme has been arranged but a good turnout of singers, musicians and dancers will be present to give him a send off.

No food or drink will be available so people are invited to bring their own.

The event is free but donations can be made for the purchase of medical equipment for use at Jamestown Hospital, St Helena.
