Subject: RE: BS: World C'ship of Women's Ice Hockey
I was supposed to go to the Women's World Hockey Championships in Halifax, in 2004, as part of security, but some "no-mind" from Hockey Canada had other plans for me. I recently(2 weeks ago) officiated in the O.F.S.A.A provincial championships, here in Ontario, for girls high school hockey and all I can say is "They've come a long way Baby". This is the second time I've been involved with this tourney and I just love it. I got cursed in both official languages this time around!
I started refereeing girls hockey about 12 years ago and I no longer have to tell girls they can't play hockey in "figure skates". One of the young ladies was one of the final cuts from the National Under 18 team and could this girl play hockey! In the A/AA championship game(she was from Ottawa), she never left the ice for the first two periods. 1-1 tie at the end of regulation/overtime and it took a combined total of 14 shooters to decide the game in the shoot-out. She scored both her teams goals for the win.
As a sidebar, girls are far more foul mouthed than boys are(in both official languages and a couple of more)! Sometimes I wasn't sure if they were calling each other a person, place, thing or social disease!

It was great hockey!!!!!!
