I've had 2 claddagh rings. the first one I had was a silver one from my mom when I was about 10 I think. The one I have now (also from my mom) is silver and has a green heart (my birthstone is an Emerald, but it isn't a real one). I've been wearing it on my left hand, heart in for as long as I've had it (2 years, I think) because I didn't know there was a designated hand and my mom told me that you wear the heart outwards if you've given your heart away. I've been wearing it wrong for a long time, and that's quite embarrasing...lol. I just found out I've been wearing it wrong yesterday.
