The area was riddled with racing prairie fires yesterday. Lots of houses and buildings damaged or destroyed, several deaths reported. The smoke hung over the area and caused itchy eyes all around. I just heard that a tornado hit Mena, Arkansas, a lovely little town we have driven through many times on our way to the Hot Springs area of Arkansas on short summer vacations. Three people died there. A wing burned on the apartment complex where we spent a couple of months when we first moved to Fort Worth (a corporate housing company maintained a furnished apartment that we stayed in while we waited for our house to close). Sixteen units destroyed, but thankfully, no injuries. The news seemed to swirl around us and be particularly topical, so I'm just glad not to actually be part of it.
