If you have a scanner, then combine the two ideas. All those pieces of paper, scan them or transcribe them onto a disk. Then, if you need to use it or share, you can print out a clean copy.

I'm terrible for throwing books away - can't bear to... but my recipe shelf is so full it fell down a while ago! I find I use a couple of books more than others so if that's what you find, keep them in the kitchen and put the others somewhere else, because they're always useful to have. If I had a bigger kitchen, I'd have a bigger bookshelf because as it stands at the moment, the one shelf isn't enough... especially when I look and see I have 7 books of chocolate recipes alone....
