I had mixed feelings about the recent "King Kong". In some ways it was very good, in other ways...way over the top. The fight with the tyrannosaur, for instance, would have been far better with just one T-Rex as in the original film, and some believable choreography, not three of them, for God's sake! And fighting while hanging in vines over a chasm? Just ridiculous. But I loved the early part in New York City...and some of the parts on the island as well. I could have done without the battle with the giant insects in the pit.

What the film needed was a lighter and more modest touch. Less excess. Less attempt to impress the jaded minds of a teenage and twenty-something audience brought up on dumb action films.

I also loved "The Assassination of Jesse James" and didn't think much of "Once Upon a Time in America". I find Mafiosos so repellant and disgusting usually that I seldom enjoy watching movies about their rise and fall...though I did like "Miller's Crossing" a lot.
