You know, Bobert, should you choose to search for your dog at the pound or humane society it might help you get an idea of its temperament and attitude if you took it out for a couple of walks. In Juneau, a number of people do that regularly- on occasion you meet them strolling or running several miles from the shelter. I know at least 4 people who do that.

I admire people who are so committed to making the dog's time at the shelter less stressful and more enjoyable. I would like to be able to do it but 1) I tell myself it would grieve me if I had to face the fact that a dog I had grown fond of was likely to be euthanized, and 2) I am aware that my attitude is totally selfish; the only feelings I am trying to spare are mine, not the dog's.
