Gargoyle, Stewball was sung in French by Hugues Aufray (French lyrics by him and Pierre Delanoé) Here is the YouTube. Btw, Hugues Aufray would also sing "Le petit âne gris" -another sad song, my 1st graders would shed a tear when reaching the end.
