Here is our programme for the next three months. For the four Thursdays in May, we will be having a season of Irish performers and each are outstanding performers bring different aspects of the rich tradition of that country.

One of Ireland's foremost comic song writers in the traditional style in recent decades and a very fine button accordion player

May 14th * £5.00 * KEVIN & ELLEN MITCHELL *** Irish Season ***
Two of Britain's finest singers of traditional songs. Kevin is from Derry and Ellen is from Glasgow

May 21st * £5.00 * OLIVER MULLIGAN & BRENDAN McAULEY *** Irish Season ***
Oliver, originally from County Monaghan, is a much respected singer of mainly Irish traditional songs, most in English and a few in Irish Gaelic. Tonight he is joined by a very fine uillean piper.

May 28th * £5.00 * KATHLEEN O' SULLIVAN & BILLY TEARE *** Irish Season ***
A welcome return for Kathleen, the lead singer with "The London Lasses", one of the finest singers around, tonight in the company of one of Ireland's leading story tellers

Tim is a folksinger, songwriter and actor. He has performed with Magic Lantern, The Albion Band and The Mellstock Band, and played concertina in five productions at The National Theatre.

The master of playing distinctive, quintessentially English style two-row melodeon, a great singer and a naturally very funny man.

June 18th * £5.00 * DUCK SOUP
A fascinating and different way of interpreting traditional song and dance tunes with some instruments that you would not expect to hear in a folk club with Adam Bushell, Ian Kearey & Dan Quinn

One of the legendary figures of the revival of interest in Old Timey music, Tom Paley, is joined by his son Ben and long-time associate, Joe Locker

July 2nd * £5.00 * GORDON TYRRALL
Gordon has been deeply involved in traditional music since the 1970s as a mesmeric singer, an outstanding guitarist and an immaculate flute player.

July 9th * £7.00 * LEON ROSSELSON & ROBB JOHNSON – "THE LIBERTY TREE"
Not an ordinary club night, Leon and Robb's show on Tom Paine will take the entire evening. Part of the "Thomas Paine & Lewes Festival".

An amazing coup for us as we present the leading female Cajun band from Louisiana - Ann Savoy, Jane Vidrine, Anya Burgess, and Lisa Reed.

July 23rd * £6.00 * JERRY EPSTEIN & RALPH BODINGTON
Jerry has been involved in traditional music for 40 years and was director of the New York Eisteddfod. Ralph is a superb performer of banjo tunes and ballads from the old-time Southern mountain culture.

4] THE FOLK DIARY
Most of the listings on the Sussex Folk Guide website are taken from the
paper magazine, THE FOLK DIARY. Issue no 236 covers the months of April and May and this is now available. They are packed with adverts for various folk festivals, folk music record companies, specialist shops, instrument makers and other services as well as details of all the folk song and dance events in our area and reviews of CDs. To obtain copies of this free magazine as it is published, please send SAE's to Vic Smith at the address below.
It is also the address to send album review copies to. Potential advertisers are also asked to contact Vic for a statement of our advertising rates.
The copy date for the June/July issue has just passed so the next copy date will be June 30th for the August/September issue. However, it should be mentioned that once the available space has been filled, no more adverts can be accepted even if they are received BEFORE the copy date. With this in mind, it is worth contacting the editors before the copy date to state your intentions and reserve advertising space even if you have not got final details or you copy prepared.

After a gap of several years, Sunday afternoon tune and song sessions have returned to the bar of the Royal Oak in Station Street in Lewes. These will be on the last Sunday of the month from 3.30 – 5.30pm. Dates for the next sessions are
