It just occurred to me that this guy is replaying the theme of one of the best novels ever written in NZ, John Mulgan's "Man Alone", in which the hero goes on the lam across the mountains after killing someone.

I'm sure Dick Turpin, Jesse James, Ned Kelly and Johnny of Braidislee would all have used speed if it had been around.
