He may also fear that the history of his VP years is being "solidified" now and wants to be sure he gets some recognition rather than all incriminations. I honestly believe he thinks he is right. Unfortunately, all it will take is some major terrorist event within the 48 contiguous (mind you, it is long overdue) to prove him right.
