Symposium on Music of the Sea
30th Annual Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival
12-13 June 2009

Presented by Mystic Seaport, the United States Coast Guard Academy, and the University of Connecticut at Avery Point.

You are invited to the 30th Annual Sea Music Festival Symposium on Music of the Sea.

Come hear wonderful speakers on such topics as the impact of whalers and traders on the music of the Beaufort Sea, the Barrouallie whalemen, the Sabine Baring-Gould collection, Gaelic walking songs, Robin Hood at sea, the sea music of Rudyard Kipling and Herman Melville's Moby-Dick, dancing for eels, and defining masculinity in the Royal Navy through song. Four central scholars of sea music-Stuart Frank, Bob Walser, Dick Swain, and Craig Edwards-will also present a panel discussion on the history of sea music and the sea music revival.

The first day of the symposium will be held at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. It is FREE and open to the public.
