Last night I stood on a rocky promontory where the Pacific meets California at the surfer's mecca known as Windansea, my back to the ocean and the wind. Before me stood, meandering or standing to attention, a bride, a groom, four bridesmaids, several groomsmen, assorted well-wishers and relatives. It was a rehearsal for today's wedding.
