Thread Name: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009)
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news
Thank you all of you. I love you all.

I think that this hit us harder because we went to Albany on the hope that there might be some improvement to Kendall's voice as a result of the procedure. Those of you that have seen Kendall in the past few months know how much of an improvement there had already been. Instead of that improvement we were told that he could lose some of the voice he has now and that really hurt.

I think that having to tell Kendall the bad news when he was out of recovery was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. He still thought that the original operation had been carried out and the look on his face when I told him that it hadn't, and what Dr Shapshay had found, was one I never want to see again. We were staying at the house of friends fairly close to the hospital and had the house to ourselves as they were away overnight. That was a blessing as we both needed some space to deal with this.

Now he has to have a CAT scan of his neck next Tuesday and then wait for the results of the biopsy, we're told at the end of next week. In the meantime we're looking on the web to see what information there is and whether there have been any new treatments that might be a bit less invasive. We will both have our reactions, of course, but we will get past that and deal with what is.

The one good thing was that, if he had not had this procedure, this cancer was in a place where it would not have been easily seen - it didn't show up on the exam that Kendall had about a month ago. hopefully, because it has been found early, there may not be so much damage.
