Wendy moves in silent hours
at the close of day,
Pirate schemes and baseball dreams
Have all been thrown away,
Solitude wings through her window
like a bird on a summer breeze,
And though I'm 1000 miles away I hear her melody.

She has seen her share of sorrow--
she's got the scars to show,
But she always keeps them hidden
so no one ever knows,
The paring knife, the second wife,
the 16 hour day,
When a woman draws on a woman's strength,
a man gets in the way.
