I grew up in Mark Twain/Tom Sawyer country and I've never, ever, seen a raft made from olgs. Way back before I was born they used to hunt them for their pelts, but the olgs were pretty much extinct before I was born, at least around there. I remember sitting in the beer garden outside Pauline's one time time, talking about olg hunting with Sam (he was in town on an up-river swing to Lacrosse) and he told me that his old girlfriend Becky's dad, Judge Thatcher, one time shot an olg that measured better'n 12 feet nose to tail tip, but it had dried some in getting it home so it was probably about 15 or 16 feet "on the hoof" so to speak. About that time it was Sam's turn with Pauline, so I finished his beer for him and went on home.
