Thread Name: Obit: Ian Mundy 1st June 2009
Subject: Obit: Ian Mundy 1st June 2009
Ian Mundy died in his sleep in Cheltenham tonight. He was 46. He played with many musicians across the South West, played bass with the Steve Ashley Band in the 1980s, and was a talented guitarist and singer in his own right.
Hereditary blindness meant that his life as a musician became very difficult, and despite the support of his many friends he trod the path of so many into depression, alcoholism and many medical complications. Through all this his spirit shone through; he was kind and generous to all, refused to be a burden to anyone, and was one of the very few people about whom the old cliche was actually true; I never heard him speak a bad word about anyone, nor anyone speak a bad word about him.
I knew him all my life; he was my kid brother, and I'll miss him more than words can ever say.
If you're playing or singing in the next few days, please sing a song and raise a glass for another good man gone.
