I finally tracked down a website with an old 78 of Walter Glynne singing this song, and had it copied to CD and posted to me.

From listening to it, I transcribed the lyrics:

Just because the violets are shining in the lane,

Just because the zephyrs blow across the twilight sea
I hear you in the courtyard grass where once you walked with me.

and there amid the violets you whisper peacefully.
