Must we worry so about getting old? Two true stories from my recent travels:
Man of about 35 is standing on an escalator in Heathrow airport. Has his suitcase right behind him. Four-year-old son is doing his damndest to push through his legs and escape down the escalator and into the airport. Mom is shouting 'Sammy! Sammy! Samuel, stop!" Boy ignores mother completely. Father never notices or says a thing, just stares into space, completely self-absorbed. ============= Airport in Key West has a sign above the luggage conveyor: "Moving parts. Keep children clear of conveyor."
Man of about 30 has his three-year-son sit on the rim of the conveyor to get his shoe tied. A plane has just landed, and the conveyor will start any moment. Child is sitting right under the warning sign.
Oh well, does the little guy really need all 10 fingers?
