Thread Name: Kendall and Deckman On The Air?
Subject: RE: Kendall and Deckman On The Air?
Bob Nelson's interview was also interesting. I agree with his comment that the librarians asked some good questions.

Here's the link for the The Pacific Northwest Folklore Society that , if I remember correctly, Bob helped found and was president of at the age of sixteen(!!).

Bob, I heard you say that you were 13 years old when you first started singing folk songs (did you mean singing professionally?). Meaning, did you grow up with those songs? I still am curious why you and Kendall think that young people now in your respective communities aren't "in to" folk music like you both were. Is it because there are other protest music, or perhaps because people protest differently? And do you think that life has sped up so much that young people are impatient with long songs or they think songs are for moving to (dancing to) and not for listening to.

I don't want this to turn into yet another "What is folk music?" thread, but I'm curious to hear (read) more of your (Bob and Kendall) opinions about the question about young people and folk music -a question that you both were asked in your separate interviews.

Thanks,

Azizi
