Here is a BBC report about the Australian PM's reaction.

Do these TV so-called personalities think that they are immune from criticism, or above the need to display common decency and common sense? Are their brains addled by the adulation bestowed upon them by the masses and the fees that their agents negotiate for them?

This is not about political correctness, indeed I oftain rail against the extremes of the latter. It is only about being bad mannered, and thinking oneself above the rest. I find this guy's behaviour offensive and embarassing (as I happen to pay part of his fee through my TV licence).
