Well established fact, stroking a pet lowers heart rate & blood pressure. It works for the pet too. Pets live longer in a home than in the wild, diet & vets are only part of the story.
I would guess - as long as the pet is not psychotic, or badly trained.
Allowing pets into hospital for certain patients has been policy in some places for a long time.
