Seamus, my IPod Shuffle fell into a cup of tea -whilst I was loading it! Brand new!
I dismantled it as far as was possible, rinsed it very thoroughly with Metylated Spirit, and blew it out with compressed air.
It didn't work before this treatment, and has worked perfectly since.

It is Ethyl Alcohol, cheaply made so that it contains dangerous amouts of Methanol, and denatured with a bitter taste, a smell, and a purple colouring , to try to stop desperate people drinking it.
