Thread Name: Yorks-Folkmusic in Education Seminar
Subject: RE: Yorks-Folkmusic in Education Seminar
Mrs Duck, Apologies for date of seminar. I was advised by our local NUT rep that it would be a good idea to avoid actual teaching time as teachers are far too busy at the moment and it's very difficult to get time off for jaunts like this. He also advised as early as poss in the summer break. I would have picked a weekend but lots of our singers/performers are away at festivals on the weekends at this busy time of the year and I particularly wanted to include Raymond's presentation on YG itself. Having decided on early in summer hols, weekday, most of the authorities in Yorkshire break up on the 17th and once we get into the second week too many people have set off on holiday. So apologies to I think Wakefield and Kirklees teachers who have another week of torture to endure. (Those last couple of weeks were always the best part of the year when I was teaching in the dim and distant past) We decided on the Monday as Bryony was still teaching that week but doesn't teach on a Monday. These part-timers!
We did invite Pete and Sue Coe to give presentations but they're awa' to bonny Scotland singing and playing. We will, however be plugging their work as Pete has sent me all their promo bumph.
Having said all that I would think you could make a very good case for going off on a course for one day.
(Here's a good one, you and another teacher organise a trip to Murton Park that day, send the kids off to go round the museum and you come to the seminar. You can nip off and check on the kids in between each presentation....Oh, well, I tried!)
