The time to see the doc is when a change happens suddenly. It may or may not signal an emergency, but sudden onset is ALWAYS something to check out ASAP because sometimes sudden onset gives an opportunity to nip a real bad thing in the bud.

It might be a natural reaction to the overwhelming stress of the last few months on top of the chronic stress of the last several years.

A wise wife's instincts should always be followed, perhaps even obeyed.
