Thread Name: Lyr Req: The Cedars of Lebanon (Thom Moore)
Subject: Lyr Add: PHOENICIAN TIDE
I wrote this a few years back during 'Operation Summer Rain'

PHOENICIAN TIDE

The sky wore a hue of gun barrel blue
in fading light as night closed in
It blew out the sun and the other stars too
They were left hanging in a fragile wind

Like so many souls shot full of holes
Frozen closed with only tears left to spend
For all the highs and lows, the way it goes,
I suppose is how it's always been

Cedar grew strong, deep and long
Forest fragrance upon a Phoenician breeze
That touched sloping hills with gentle breath
Caressed the ancient seas

Eager sails danced on glistening boats
They filled and floated on changing tides
Sinew and sweat gathers up nets
Bartered harvest far and wide

That wayfaring wood was solid and good
Heart and hand-hewn in a nobler age
Cedar was drawn from the land of dawn
While her sailors grew strong in its shade

Her people took root upon the shores
Along that great spread of Mediterranean
While Empires came and went with their strain of war
Long before the sword turned to uranium

Before the sky wore a hue of gun barrel blue
In fading light as night closed in
It blew out the sun and the other stars too
They were left fragile in a fractured wind

A web was drawn across Lebanon,
It choked the light inside
Cedar grew strong in old Lebanon
Forest fragrance lingered on fingers of a Phoenician tide
