Hey, I was just about to start a thread on this. I, too, really liked it. And I may even watch several repeats.
What I really, really liked:
When the host and Bobby McFerrin switched from the straight march of "Hooray for the red, white and blue" to the syncopated version.
And
The explaination of harmonics and intervals. That was the clearest illustration of those concepts I've ever seen (Mudcatters are great teachers, but the animated image of a vibrating string really helped me see what's going on with that.
What I really, really missed:
A chance to hear someone play a replica of those ancient bone and ivery flutes from 45,000 years ago, so we might get an inkling of what they sounded like.
and
When the researchers visited that remote tribe in Cameroon, who'd never heard access to Western culture, to see if they heard the same emotional messages in classical music that we do (distinguishing between "Happy." "Sad," and "Scary"), I would have loved to have the roles reversed, so I could get a chance to hear their music, and see if I could distinquish between the ways they express mood in their music.
But yes. Really, really good. Will be watching the repeat.
