I picked up the red plectrum I use from the carpet of the White Swan next to the Theatre Royal in Portsmouth. No one claimed it, so I put it into my bits bag with my capo.

That was about 35 years ago, maybe more.

When I lost my original plectrum - it was 'tortoise shell' and fell onto a brown patterned carpet somewhere in another, I started to use the red one.

Oddly enough the timing of plectrum use fits almost exactly with my two marriages.
