I was quite surprised to see a criminal on this scale banged up at all. I recall that while another infamous crook, Robert Maxwell, was alive, he put the fear of God into judges so effectively that he was essentially immune from prosecution as long as he was alive.
It has come as a pleasant surprise to know that even a crook as big as Madoff occasionally gets brought to book.
