Wednesday is Canada Day. It is also Memorial Day in this province, honouring the efforts and losses of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment at Beaumont Hamel on July 1, 1916.
July 1st is a day always mixed with sadness and joy. Sadness for the fallen. And joy, as we celebrate Canada Day. Both are part of the proud Newfoundland heritage.
