OK - I know I am an old git but I can well remember being of that age and I am pretty sure my self preservation instanct was a lot stronger.

Unfortunately, memory is selective and I suspect that it more reflects your own feelings of invincibility at that age rather than the deteriorating standards of today's youth. In thirty years' time, those who have managed to survive, more by good luck than good sense, will be saying "It was never like this in my day!"
