When you want to put chord symbols (letters) directly above a given word or syllable in a set of lyrics, you need to use a monospaced or "typewriter" font, such as Courier. Every character (including punctuation marks and spaces as well as letters and numerals) is the same width, so you can predict how letters will line up vertically.

What's especially problematic and confusing about trying to do this in a Mudact post is that your post is displayed in monospaced Courier when you are tryping it in, but whtn it's posted, it is converted to non-monospaced Times Roman (or equivalent.) So a passage that looks right to you as you enter it will fail to line up correctly once you've posted it.
