Your talk, leveller, of a men-only room, reminds of "The Tubs", as it was affectionately known, in Lancaster (so called because the tables were old beer barrels), where there was actually a women-only bar. Woe betide the hapless male who wandered in by mistake - he'd be met by some very disparaging remarks about his manhood by the ladies - old and young - cackling over their Mackie and orange.
