Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I see the moon, the moon sees me
All feel assured that the tradition of this song lives on. Though only 16 now, my mom's been singing this song to me since I was a baby. As far back as I can remember every full moon we'd go out and pay homage to it with this song. She recalls harmonizing this with her parents and siblings on car rides home from family gatherings. I wish I knew how her parents originally came across the tradition. Recently I shared the lyrics with my girl friend half a country away. A great deal of comfort can be taken in these. This is the version I always knew:
I see the moon, and the moon sees me
Down through the leaves of the old oak tree.
Please let the light that shines on me
Shine on the one I love.
Over the mountain, over the sea,
Back where my heart is longing to be,
Please let the light that shines on me
Shine on the one I love.
