DMcG - The Farne Island story might be excused if the visitor was from France. In France the Southern Hemisphere penguin is called a Manchot. They also have birds named Pingouin which refers to Nortern Hemisphere birds of the Auk family. See in French Alca torda - Petit pingouin and compare it with in English http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alca torda - Razorbill. Quack! GtD.
