I have a number of Generation brass (?) D whistles of varying quality. Even the best one losses a bit at of clarity beyond A at the top end. Is this just chnace? Do I have to buy lots and get a good one in the end? Can anything be done to improve the clarity?

People have suggested bathing in maidens water but you see the ethical issues - never mind simply finding a bathful!
