I think people have seen too many Hollywood movies about prison to form their opinions.

So, I'm getting the impression that people think someone who hacks into a military defense system did nothing wrong. I dated a guy with Asperger's syndrome (high intelligence is part of Asperger's) it's no excuse for breaking the law.
