Thread Name: Lyr Req: The Trail of the Lonesome Pine
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Trail of the Lonesome Pine
I'm amazed at all of the versions of this song.
We were passing through Virginia, and entered the Blue Ridge mountains and I started singing this song for my wife.
She thought I made it up, So I had to see if anyone else ever heard it.
This is the version I remember. In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia -
Stood a cow on the railroad tracks.
She was a cow so fine, with Eyes Divine -
But You can't expect a cow to read a railroad sign -
So there she stood in the middle of the track -
Along came a train and hit her in the back.
Now her heads in the the (something) of Virginia -
And her tail's on a Lonesome Pine.
