Al-Hussein, a UN Press Officer, was arrested with 12 others [not 18]. Of the group, 10 pleaded guilty and accepted a sentence of ten lashes, but al-Hussein and two others decided to go to trial. The names and status of these two are not stated. Al-Hussein said "If I'm sentenced to be whipped, or to anything else, I will appeal. I will see it through to the end, to the constitutional court if necessary." Apparently her legal team is not in full agreement; one arguing that she has immunity and asking the judge to ignore her wishes. Police dispersed hundreds of women and activists from other political parties who demonstrated outside the court.
