yeah I wondered about the word "review"?!

If you want to start runnng a folk club, or putting on regular paying concerts, then there's a couple of places I've come across that will let you have the room for free.

The Hideaway (in between Tufnell Park and Archway) is a good venue. They have a very nice downstairs room. The only drawback is they have an agreement with the council of no amplification and no drums. In practice they get away with amplifiication because they have a house PA system with a built-in limiter, and I think hand percussion is ok. Does food, has good beers on tap too, pretty handy location.

I've put on a couple of nights at a pub called The Grosvenor, in Brixton. Very nice old fashioned 1950s pub backroom (with a 150 capacity), good sound system, and the landlord is a lovely bloke.

The Gladstone is a tiny pub in Borough that puts on acoustic music, though normally of a more "alternative" bent. It's titchy and they don't charge admittance though, so while they're very friendly and hospitable, I don't think you could charge any entrance there.

I don't know whether Powers Acoustic Room in Kilburn is still going, but it looked from their gig programme like they might be open for someone to run a monthly night.

The Betsey Trotwood is a great little venue - their upstairs room is the one to go for. Have a look at their website to get a flavour: puts on a lot of americana, bluegrass, and some folk. I think they have the odd night going. Another pub where the landlord is a true gent.
