There is something in today's Oregonian paper about some healing projects they are undertaking in Portland. What they went through is beyond belief. I worked with a number of students not too long after it all happened. I could write from memory their universal story..and it always starts out..

before 1975...

I do have somewhere some writings of two teenagers who described some of their experiences and this is what they would write in school..and the teacher would put big red slashes to correct their English. It all should have been preserved. I asked a boy once if he had talked to anyone about this and he said no..he and others said who would believe us...

If you are not familiar with the stories of them leaving babies behind on the trails...it is awful..but they had to do it as others have had to do..because the cries would alert the enemy..who was their own people.

I never understand when people say we must not let it happen again. It did happen again and will yet again if we are not forever vigilant. mg
