if you look carefully at the results for the 1966 General Election results in Smethwick (scroll down), you'll see in the third position a party with an eerily familiar name, click on the link.

Peter Griffiths who won in 1964 used the slogan "If you want a n***** neighbour, vote Labour. He stayed in the Tory Party and eventually became a much toned down (at least in public) Tory MP for Portsmouth North.

Adrew Faulds who won the seat back was of course a well-known radio actor (Journey into Space. loads of film and TV) and known as a bit of a left-winger in those days. He supported the Palestinian Cause quite vehemently.
