Mark Shields is a liberal to those who believe clones like Rush and Beck. Novak was a man who made his living as a former of public opinion. Washington insider "liberals" like Shields and his fellow consumers of cocktail franks may have found him privately charming. His public body of work, I still maintain, was shameful.
