I think this is born out by the fact that the BNP's "success" in the East Riding in the European Elections to a large extent stemmed from the fact that Hull is the biggest conurbation in the constituency. Lots of disgruntled Labout voters and one of the most racist cities in the UK. It may also have been a protest against the elitist Conservatives and UKIP, who have previously dominated the vote. It's worth noting that the Green Party were only 20 votes behind the BNP.
