Aside from vampire bats, which probably don't exist in most plaxes where Mudcatters live (see map here), bats aren't interested in getting too close to human, and they are pretty adept at avoiding it.

Even in a limited space, a bat is never going to collide with you if you keep still.   It may seem like a dark room to you, but to a bat it's like bright daylight, thanks to their echo-location.
