Thread Name: List of pubs with playable piano.;
Subject: RE: List of pubs with playable piano.;
Reading some of the above comments, I feel it is a shame to go off thread but typical of many mudcat threads.
The instrument I have heard played most insensitively most often, is the guitar but that is probably because the instrument I have heard most often at sessions, music nights, open mics etc...is the guitar. If it is relevant and I am not sure that it is, I have heard Tim L play the bodhran and I have never heard him play it inappropriately or annoyingly and he is a very competent player on guitar and bodhran who adds to the music that takes place. I guess his response is the same as I feel when some people assume, and say, all pianists are insensitive plonkers. I think there are good and bad players of most instruments and some of the technically 'good' players are the worst at playing over other people.

I am a pianist. There are some people who play the piano with little appreciation or sensitivity toward their audience or the other musicians they are playing with, it is like life...some people like to be heard, whether or not, what they have to 'say' is what others are interested in hearing. I try, when I play, to consider whether it is appropriate/adds anything to the music going on...I hope that most people find that I am sensitive and my playing is not instrusive....if I am accompanying someone, I don't just play, I try as best I can, to do just that so that the music enhances rather than competes against the other performer/s...BUT for me to be able to play, I need a piano. I saved up and bought a stage piano but it is not always fun to trail it about and I REALLY would like to hear about places I can maybe have a go on a traditional one. Sorry about the capital letters but can we get back to the thread, now?
Pllllleeeeez.
